“How long in advance should I book my wedding photographer?” is a question that people regularly ask me. I’ve had clients who booked a year before their wedding date, but then once I also had a couple who approached me on the morning of their wedding day. I was, luckily, still available and shot that wedding (It did for sure pay out in that case that I have all my equipment ready at all times, batteries charged, memory cards prepared etc.). Thats, luckily again, not the usual case. Most couples ask me if I can shoot their wedding some months before the date.
This is, generally, sufficient. There are, however, dates that are very popular. Here in Namibia (and especially here in Swakopmund at the coast) a lot of weddings are taking place on the weekends in December. So if you’re planning a December wedding, you might want to book your photographer, venue, hairdresser etc. rather early. A wedding photographer (unlike a florist e.g., who can do the decoration for several wedding taking place at the same date) can only book one wedding per Saturday, so the best way to make sure it’s yours is to book quite early. This is true all the more if there is one special photographer that you really want to take your wedding photographers. And in the end wedding photography is all about style. So if your wedding photos, that are going to be lasting memories of that special day, are important to you enquire as early as possible.
