In August I had the chance to cover the traditional Owambo wedding of Rauna and Luis in Engela in the Ohangwena Region. Engela is very close to the border of Namibia with Angola, and we actually took some portrait pictures in Oshikango, where the border post is.
As usually in the Owambo culture the wedding took place at the bride’s Rauna’s hometown, although both bride and groom are now living and working in Windhoek. In this case the church ceremony took place in Engela, the reception afterwards was held in a banquet tent at the family homestead. The following day there was another reception in Luis’ hometown Tsumeb.
It was two days filled with joy, love and laughter, lots of family and friends took part and the day will forever stay in the couples memory. This is especially true as Rauna had to leave to London for a year just a few weeks after the wedding to further her studies there.
